Civil Rights
A pedestrian was harassed, stopped, and handcuffed by a local police officer in the complete absence of probable cause and because the pedestrian had asserted his right to be left alone and not have to speak with the officer. The interaction was approximately 10 minutes in length but was very intrusive and demeaning towards the client. A lawsuit was filed and the case settled for $50,000, and vindicated the client’s exercise of his fundamental constitutional rights of speech and freedom.
